Adjusting for inflation

More rain this morning. Everything sure is green and growing now.

I got the ice cream made after dinner. It takes about 25-30 minutes. In the 3 times I've used this Cuisinart Soft Ice cream maker, I have yet to actually have it dispense the ice cream out the bottom. This time I did it a couple minutes less time and it still would not come out. I just have to spoon it out of the container. Which is fine. I just wanted some on our plates with the cake and then to put the rest into a freezer container. But, for the "fun" factor of having it dispense like a soft ice cream machine - it disappoints. The ice cream is very good, though and I like that it's just 4 natural ingredients. Whole milk, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla. No extra crap we don't need in our bodies. I haven't figured out how much it costs to make but it's over $5 because just the pint of heavy organic cream I use cost that much. So, I know it's more than say the great value brand vanilla ice cream.

We played another round of pool after lunch. I am so close to getting better, LOL. I'm sure dd and sil will enjoy it when the are here Mother's Day weekend. Did I tell you dh had me order one of those trick cue balls? He wants to use it the first time dd plays, LOL. We tested it out and when you hit it, it curves a little off a different direction. I'm not sure I'll be able to keep a straight face the first time she hits it.

Now I'm hearing coffee prices are supposed to go way up. I think I heard the same about olive oil. Eggs, as well. Well, at least I don't drink a lot of coffee - just one cup per day and it's been forever and a day since I bought a fancy coffee from a coffee house/drive through. I'm still getting sticker shock whenever we go through a drive through like Wendy's or McDonalds. (about once a month). We used to get out of there for about $12-13, now it's $20-21 - and I never even order a drink or a meal, just a sandwich and dh gets a meal combo.

We haven't been to a restaurant in quite awhile. The once restaurant in our area we liked and went to for years, changed ownership a few years ago. At first the menu kept changing things and the last few times we have been there it is not near as good as it all used to be. Now if we want to go out we have to drive to the city and most of the time we just say nah - we'll just make something at home. It's just too far to drive just to go out to dinner. But, I do miss having somewhere to go out every few months, just to get a break from cooking and a couple hours out of the house once in awhile.

We haven't even gone to the little mom and pop burger drive thru place, in the small town west of us, in a long time. It's crazy expensive, because it's a tourist stop spot for gas, food and gift store. A double burger, single burger, one order of fries and 2 shakes is almost $40 and it seems to go up every time we go there. It's almost as expensive to go there as it is to go to a sit down restaurant. I just make dh double cheeseburgers at home now.

Well, it's Monday - back to work day. I was really on a roll last week, but I'm not feeling it yet this week, haha.

  1. I bought 3 value burgers from Wendy's and a large fries - $15ish Canadian. :/ previously would have been closer to $10-12? I got two dishes from a Chinese food place $25ish - it's all getting out of hand. My mom spent $10 on tangerines :/ if you don't or cannot price shop, it all is getting to be a LOT.

    1. Soda has gone way up the past year or two as well. Wish I could get dh off of it. A 24 pack used to cost around $7, now it's $12-13

    2. Agreed! I am not paying $2 for a bottle of Coke. No name for me! But even the no name brands are increasing their prices.

    3. I just don't drink soda at all. Once in a blue moon I might have a Sprite or a sip of dh's coke. Every couple of years we get a craving for a root beer float and I'll buy some root beer.

  2. Fast food has gotten crazy expensive, and it’s mediocre at best. We have several restaurants where you can eat cheaper than fast food. We never really eat fast food unless we are traveling though.

I had an ice cream maker, but I gave it to one of my kids. I never had the ingredients on hand, so eating ice cream had to be a planned event lol. That’s not how we live our lives so it wasn’t getting used. You are definitely right though-nothing cheaper about making it.

    1. DH is more the fast food lover, but I really liked the Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich and was so bummed when they discontinued it. Now I could take it or leave it, if we stop and get fast food. We have been doing Taco Time more and for the chicken quesadilla I get there, sometimes it is really good and other times, not. The last one I had was so thin and literally had like 2 small pieces of chicken in it.

  3. The BIL and SIL always want to take my mother in law for brunch on Mother's Day, buffet somewhere. We'll go too as it's easier on my kids when it's a group than awkward conversation in small tables with my MI, where she gets into death or severe illness conversations about people we don't know, or know tangentially. It's really hard 😭 n my youngest. Anyway, the brunch place selected will. E $32 a person, no beverages, plus tax and tip, and we'll probably cover 1/2 my MILs meal. So, probably $180. My older daughter will be gone plus being vegan, the nuggets don't work for her anyway. I don't want my kids to have that expense so I'll cover it. The only saving grace is we'd skip both breakfast and supper likely.

    1. Sometimes we just gotta do those kinds of things and suck it up for a couple of hours and the expense. Yep - eat up, so you are mostly full the rest of the day, LOL.

  4. Now that you have a Costco membership, check their pricing for heavy cream. In our experience, it's A LOT less than buying it in the grocery store.

    1. I saw the cartons of heavy cream in the cooler when I was getting the milk. I didn't see the price - I just saw the huge size and that it was 2 cartons! LOL. I thought to myself there's no way I'll use all that up before it would go bad. Plus, I like using organic milk and cream as much as possible and didn't see this was organic.

    2. At our Costco, organic comes in half gallons and a few dollars more than a pint at our regular grocery store. Still a lot of heavy cream. Hubs uses it for sauces primarily, but we have been known to use it for homemade ice cream soit does not go to waste.

    3. I believe my Costco also has organic whipping cream. I bought it once but it was a long time ago. It lasts a long time past the date, and you can freeze it. I have some in the freezer right now. I’ve never used it for ice cream, but it seems fine for cooking.

  5. I have a Cuisinart, the one you put in the freezer. I guess it is about the same as yours but does not dispense. I need to be able to put my a2milk in it so I don't suffer.

Lots of time, I just want a small, plain hamburger. They were $1 once and now are $2. We got one at McD and it was $2.50. That is outrageous.

Mostly, we get the two Whopper, Jr. for $5 if we want more than the basic meat and bread.

    1. This one gets put in the freezer as well. I also have one for my kitchenaid, but it doesn't make soft ice cream and you have to cook the ice cream mixture over the stove first. This cuisinart one is quicker to use

I adore ice cream so it has be in the form of portion control in my house!
A box would just be dipped into until it was empty!
I go for expensive but delicious Magnum Classic chocolate ice cream lollipops.
At three for £3.50 ( $4.39 ) there is a strong motive not to tuck into the 2nd one! x
