Just dumbness all around

The snow is delaying stuff. Not really a big deal, but the flooring was supposed to be delivered Tuesday and put in the house to acclimate.  The installer guy show up at 10:45 am yesterday, with the flooring. DH had run into town to mail a package. I went out to the house to talk to them. We went over what flooring goes where.  I explained we really wanted to try and get these great room ceiling fan and lights installed before the flooring got laid down there, because of the scaffolding. He was like "ok, good to know. He said they were going to bring it in and get started. I then asked - doesn't it need to acclimate at least 24 hours before you can start laying it? His reply was "it's been stored in 65 degrees, so it's ok". Doesn't that sound to you like he plans to start laying wood laminate today?

So, I called the flooring guy to ask him. He said that the installer was only supposed to do the vinyl areas and not start on wood laminate until the next day. I said, ok, just making sure because that's sure not what it sounded like. He also said he called the manufacturer of the wood laminate the prior day to ask them how long it needs to acclimate and they said 24 hours is enough.  Ok, we'll trust you. We've been into this project almost a year, so another day or two delay, to make sure it's done right, is not a problem for us. He said he understood and agreed - that they weren't going to be taking any short cuts. He said he would call the installer to make sure he's letting the flooring acclimate at least 24 hours.

Then a little later, when I went back out there to answer some question the installer guy says "oh, we weren't going to start on the wood laminate today, that's tomorrow"........but then about 1 1/2 hours later his other guy leaves in his car and doesn't come back. Probably because he had planned on having him start on the wood laminate?!! (he was working on the vinyl area) My guess is they thought they'd just go ahead and start it and we'd be none the wiser of how it's supposed to be done. Wrong!

So, before the flooring guy left yesterday he told DH he has more boxes to bring in the next morning and wanted to use the front door to bring it in through. We have the front door closed/blocked, also with a sign on it saying "use garage door". From where they have to park out front either door is about equal distance. We don't want everyone using the front door. It will get scratched or stained or something. There's no reason they need to be using it. DH told him no, and he tried to argue with him.  So, he shows up this morning and I got out into the house and tell him "hey, we don't want anyone using the front door. You can use the side garage door or you can open up one of the big garage doors and unload through there. I said it twice! He says ok.

Next thing you know he's having the electrician move his truck so he can park 3 feet closer to the front door and he's trying to open the front door. I went out there and said "we don't want you to use the front door, you can open the big garage door, if you want". He then says "oh, it's ok. I talked to your husband about using the front door yesterday and he said it was ok". I said no, he said he didn't want you using it. That's why I came out here when you first got here to tell you not to! OMG!!

The painter lady is annoying the heck out of us. She had told DH before she would need the garage space as her "work area". ok, no problem. Then Tuesday and yesterday she does all her sanding, staining and lacquering in the great room and then moved all the staircase steps in our master bedroom. These rooms are now in the "finishing" stage - she doesn't need to be doing that in there! We don't need sanding/dust everywhere over the new flooring and just painted walls. They don't clean up. DH ends up doing it. Not to mention they took these boards they use across saw horses to lay stuff on she's sanding/painting/staining and just set them up against our newly painted bedroom wall. Just dumb! Let's just mark that up. DH was checking in with our contractor about stuff  last night and he said the same thing! "She shouldn't be doing that in the house, she needs to go it all out in the garage. You don't want to be smelling lacquer in your bedroom for the next 10 years!"  She hasn't even shown up today, LOL.

So, our electricians are here. Sure love them, though. They are on the ball and not stupid. All my lights showed up with FedEx right after they got here. Yay. Except, the ceiling fan light........GRRR! I went back online and it was the last thing on the list and showed shipped and I thought it was with everything else. Tracking on it showed "not available". I called Lowes customer service and she was able to tell me that it shipped direct from their vendor and is supposed to arrive to me tomorrow.  And then I realized I totally spaced out on a bunch of light fixtures! I guess I thought they were can lights type (that the electrician is supplying), so, now I need to get a bunch of lights for bedroom ceilings and closets. Dumb me.

And just to start the morning off on a great note.....Dh got up early to plow out the driveway (again!) and somehow smashed his ring finger. It started swelling up. He tried to get the swelling to go down so he could get his wedding ring off. Not happening. He messed with it for a good hour or two. Not happening and it was getting bad. I had mentioned earlier, just cut the ring off! No!. Finally, he said, I think I'm going to have to cut it off. I said I'd rather ruin a $50 (back in 1985 price!) ring than spend $20,000 on your finger!! He got the electrician guy to use cutter/snips and get it off. He's in a much better mood now. Men!

Staircase sneak peek

A sneak peek at the staircase. Of course it still needs railing and staining, but this shows how it turned out, design and layout wise.

from standing in entryway
from standing next to kitchen

At first the framer thought he was going to need a post under each corner of that upper landing. But he was able to move two of the posts to partway underneath the stairs coming down, in line with the (support) beam that already had to be there for our ceiling beam. Then he decided he only needed one more beam there at the corner of the upper landing. Yesterday, he also thought we were going to have to have the beginning downstairs steps start on the opposite side of that lower landing. I guess he thought it would stick out too far past that support post and be too far in our walkway to the kitchen.  We had leftover tounge and groove boards, so they just turned those over and used them as the landings base. I think they will be covered in the wood laminate flooring....though honestly I'm not sure.  Maybe painter will just stain and lacquer them, I don't know yet.

I referred DD to sign up for Ebates. Apparently I will get $25 and she will get $10 for signing up. She just made her first order, from Chewy, which gives 5% cash back. Which made me realize I have a Chewy monthly delivery of dog food on autoship and because of it being on autoship, I don't get the Ebates rebate. Hmmm.. wonder if there is a way around it. I do save with Chewy, being on autoship, but boy, sure would be nice to have the Ebates rebate too. I'm going to try something this month. The day before my autoship is set to ship, I'm going to log in (via ebates first) and say "ship now" and see if it will give me the 5% Ebates rebate. Worth a shot.

I've made about $175 in extra money for February. Not bad.

In other really good news....FIL's house has only been listed about what, a week? He got 10 offers! And $43,000 more than asking price! Very nice. We are so happy and relieved for him. I know a lot of how the house presented was because they cleaned it all out and agent did staging. I'm really glad they used that same realtor we used. She does good. Not sure what FIL is going to do once it's closed and he has the money. He mentioned the other evening to DH he just wants the house sold so he can get the money and go live someplace else. It doesn't sound like he wants to stay at SIL's house. He'd obviously have to live somewhere with assisted living. We'll see what happens. Maybe he was just having a hard day.

Not much exciting going on today. I'm trying to get payroll done, but keep getting interrupted by DH and the construction guy.  Goodness, we thought he had how the stairs will be built all figured out when he was framing the house (at least he said he did). Then he comes in to get started yesterday and tells us the staircase is going to go into where our seating area is in front of the fireplace. Well, that's dumb and not what we want!

So, finally it got figured out to change the staircase layout some. Then, for some reason this morning, once he got most of it built, he realized he can make the entrance to to up the stairs where we wanted them, LOL. Then it's "we can put a post here...or here...or here.." type of stuff. So, it's all turning out ok.  For the most part, I think I like it better than how we originally thought it was going to be.

So, the framer and his brother went and stayed in the motel in town last night (they worked until 6pm) so they didn't have to drive all the way home on these really bad roads. So, you'd think then they would have been here by 8am? Nope, LOL. Made it by 9 am.

The contractor's side kick is here today (painter lady's hubby), grinding down spots on the floor sheeting, which needs to be done before the flooring can be put down. WHAT A MESS that makes. Dust everywhere. I don't even see how the staircase guys can stand to work in there with that. The way they do stuff just makes no sense. There is major dust everywhere now. So, we have these finished/painted walls, that dust is just sticking to now. They've only known since last Fall, after all the heavy rains made the plywood sheeting swell up in spots that they were going to have to come back in and grind down. Why not do that BEFORE finish work is being done?! Then the guy says he's just going to do the parts where laminate and vinyl is going down (this week) and do the carpet areas (our bedroom and upstairs) later, when he comes back to do our trim work...DH is like just do it all today! it's a fricken mess and you want to come in and do the master bedroom and upstairs grinding (which part of the upstairs is just open loft to below) after all that flooring gets in and make a big huge mess with dust on all that? Good grief. Not to mention, none of them want to be the one to clean up the dust!

It snowed like crazy yesterday. We probably got a foot of snow. Kept DH busy plowing. He could barely keep up with it. Sounds like tomorrow might be another bad day. I'm sure that's why the flooring hasn't been delivered today, like it was supposed to. I had asked the flooring guy about it needing to be brought in and opened up, so it can acclimate. He said they were going to bring it in Tuesday, give it 24 hours, and then his guy will start installing tomorrow....I'm not sure what is going on now, haven't heard, but I'm sure it does need to be acclimated at least some before they install it.

That's about all I know for today.

Well, this is annoying

It's been a busy and now frustrating day. About a month ago, when the cabinet lady needed my appliance measurements, I went on Lowe's.com and picked out the appliances I want. I wrote down all the model numbers, so I'd have them handy when I'm ready to order. OMG! So, I just get back online (not quite ready to order, but wanted to check on something) and now 3 out of the 4 appliances are no longer available at Lowes! It's only been a month, not like I chose these all last year. I'm so frustrated!! Especially because now I either need to try to find the exact same thing through another store or find something same size, as those are the measurements I need to use.  Ugh! I'm not in the mood.

I'll bet it's snowed 4 inches in the last 4 hours.  Supposed to continue through tomorrow morning. I don't envy these workers having to drive home in it this afternoon (but maybe if they would've showed up before 11am.....) and especially don't envy our 67 year old neighbor lady having to drive home from work this evening! She mentioned one time that she has friends in the city she can stay with overnight it it's really bad. I'd say this probably qualifies as that!

I found something new to watch on Amazon Prime. Doctor Who. A bit of a quirky show. I kind of vaguely remember watching some episodes when I was a kid (many! years ago) but I think I was too young and couldn't figure it out, LOL. I don't think I could sit and binge watch it for hours, but to catch an episode when I can't find anything else to watch or read, is a good little distraction every now and again.

The staircase is getting started. Not really much to show via a picture yet. They've only got two steps done LOL.  It sure will be a big "chunky" thing though! I'm excited the dogs will finally be able to go check out the upstairs, soon.

Well, off to figure out how/what/where to get the appliances I thought I was going to get.............

Snowy Sunday

The painter lady and her hubby were back to work a few more hours today. Still working on staining and lacquering the beams. She lacquered what she stained yesterday and did some more staining. She's almost done. I think she will be done by tomorrow. She doesn't want to finish lacquering what she stained today, until it's dry. DH said she did have a much better attitude today. I just stayed out of there, LOL. She annoys me. She asked DH if I came out and looked at it after they left yesterday (I did go out there a couple of times yesterday while they were working) and wanted to know what I thought of it......DH said "she said she doesn't care if anyone else doesn't like it!" LOL!!

This is the beam that runs at the top of the ceiling in the great room
This is the fireplace mantel - from the trees cut down on our property. Pretty rough and rustic, and even some live edge on it, but that's ok. I like that it's from the trees cut down.  (the fireplace itself is still covered in paper)

It's been snowing lightly most of the afternoon. We are really supposed to get dumped on tomorrow. Hopefully not too much. We want the framer guy to be able to get here, as he's supposed to spend Monday and Tuesday putting in our staircase. I cannot wait to see that! It will totally change it all, and I'm sure will make the great room look much smaller and less big and open.  Flooring is supposed to get started on Wednesday.

It's been hard for me to spend much time in the house this past week - all the paint and stain fumes gives me just about an instant headache, so I can't stay in there too long.

I just realized I goofed and could've gotten another $40 cash back on my lighting purchase. With the 10% off lowes coupon code I didn't need to put it on my Lowe's card (and didn't get the 5% for charging on Lowe's card, since they don't offer that if you use a 10% off coupon). I should have put it on my credit card that gets 2% cash back. Dang. Guess I was in too much of a hurry to think that one through. But, that's what I'll do on the appliances purchase.

Painting

Yeeesh! We will be glad to be rid of this painter lady. She's ticked the contractor told her she had to work this weekend (and more than 4 hours on Friday!) to get this done by Monday. She worked a whole 5.75 hours on Friday. If she had worked full days Wed, Thurs and yesterday she wouldn't have had to work this weekend! She's been bringing her 2 sons to help, today her hubby came too. (He works for the contractor, mostly doing finish work). DH has been out there a few times this morning, says she's on full B^%% mode.

She doesn't like the paint color, either. LOL. Like I really care?! I'm paying you a buttload to paint it, not for your opinion, LOL.

Pictures don't always show color well, but here is the sitting loft being painted and my office all painted.  The color is Sherwin Williams Sand Dollar, which seems an apt description of the color. It is the same color that had been used in our house in town.

To me, it's just a nice neutral color that isn't too dark. Whatever. LOL. I think it will look great with the wood (and some carpet) flooring, as well as the wood stained doors and trim. I think it will go nicely with the mainly rustic look I am going for. It's a very similar color I had painted some rooms in our old house we lived in all those years.

We went to the city later yesterday afternoon to get our grocery shopping done, as they are predicting a bunch of snow and we wanted to get it done and be prepared. I'm playing the Monopoly game with the store and so far have won several donuts/bagels and won a $5 store gift card. Plus, they were apparently having a promotion for extra Just4You rewards and I now have 11 rewards, which is equivalent to $15 off my next trip.

The light fixtures are on their way and tracking shows delivery on Wednesday, so that should be perfect - unless all the snow its and it gets delayed, but then the electricians probably won't come either, if it snows that much.

Progress report

I'm not sure when the painter had planned to originally get all the paint and stain....but she ended up getting it last night at Home Depot. And then brought it all out in her hubby's truck - at 8:30pm. So, she made 2 trips out here yesterday. (again, with the poor time management, eh?). She did show up at 8:30 this morning and is spraying away. It goes very fast with spraying. I actually chose the same paint color that was in our house we had in town. It's called Sand Dollar.

Trying to coordinate other stuff...the contractor had set up the flooring to get started on Wednesday, but we are like "wait....what about the electricians that still need to come in and do all the trim out? We couldn't schedule them until we knew the painting schedule....and I asked the flooring guy...do we want them rolling around on the scaffolding, putting up the great room lighting, on brand new flooring? He's like "um....not really". Good grief. Seems to me like flooring should be one of the last things, so it's not getting ruined and dirty by all the subs still working in the house.

In the meantime contractor decided the framer better get back here Monday and Tuesday to build our staircase before flooring goes in. In the next couple of weeks the inside of this house sure is going to change. Yay. Finally.

I've decided to order some of the Moen bath fixtures I was quoted on from the plumbing supply place from Amazon instead. I will save almost $500. That savings will pay for the copper sink I want!

Plus, I just ordered all the lighting today, from Lowe's and that is supposed to take about 4 days to get here. I put everything in my online cart and then did a search for any coupon codes. What I did come across was 10% off codes for sale on eBay. For .99 I immediately received a 10% off code. Saved me $220!!  I also went through Ebates, so I saved another $22 I will get in cash back. I'm going to do the same thing - buy a 10% off code when I order the appliances.

FIL's house went up for sale this week. They are using the realtor that sold our house for us. She did staging of the house and it looks SO much better! The carpet is still ugly/bad, but boy, just cleaning it all up (and out) and tastefully decorating, sure makes a huge difference. Hopefully it will sell really quick. It's a 1/4 acre corner lot in a decent subdivision.  DH was messaging with this guy on a forum he frequents. The guy has been looking for a home in that area, so DH sent him the link to FIL's house. He seemed pretty interested. He was like - is he looking for a bidding war or would he accept a full price offer? He probably won't be the one to buy it, but I think it will sell quickly.

Lies, lies, lies

Sure a lot of lying going on lately. Now it's the painter lady. She showed up, with her 2 sons, yesterday to start work at 10:15. DH told her he was waiting on the insulation guy, who was on his way, to come look in the attic area (as we are working on resolving a ventilation and humidity issue). If it looked good, she was good to go to start spraying/painting (which will increase the humidity in the house). Of course she had prep work of taping and covering in plastic to do first anyway, so this was not holding her up any. Insulation guy showed up a half hour later, said all looked good, and he and DH told her she was good to go with painting/spraying.

At 2pm she leaves! She barely worked 4 hours. First off, all these subs complain and complain how it's so far "out here" but they drive all this way and then work only a few hours! Just dumb. We had no idea why she left so early....maybe she had to go get more supplies before they closed?

By 10am this morning she still had not shown up. Another thing - we are paying to keep this temporary furnace running so it's warm enough to do all this work inside (tape and texturing, painting) and are getting really tired of paying for it 24/7, while they all work 4 hours a day.  A little after 10, DH had had enough of this slow process of doing all this work on our house. He called the contractor. Said she only worked 4 hours yesterday and is not here today. The contractor said that painter lady told him she left early yesterday because DH told her to stop spraying (she is putting primer on first) because the humidity level was getting to high! DH was like OMG! I said NO such thing ever to her.  That is a flat out lie she told him.

About 10 minutes later contractor calls back and said he called her on it. Apparently she kind of himhawed and back tracked about why she left early yesterday (while she's on her way here).  Contractor said he told her she is getting the primer part completed today. She then said "well, I don't have enough primer there to finish it today". OMG! Contractor then said to her why not? she said she said she didn't want to buy too much....he said he told her "we use primer on every house we do, it will get used! Not to mention it's on his account, not coming out of her pocket!". Contractor said he told her she needs to be done with the painting by next Tuesday, as the flooring is going on on Wednesday.

She pulled in about 10:15, as DH was talking to the contractor. At noon her car leaves. went out in the house and she was still there. She had to send her son all the way back to the city to get more primer! OMG! Why would you not get more and bring it with you before you came out here, already knowing you don't have enough?!  Such poor time management by all of these folks. Awhile back she told DH the house only needs to be 40 degrees inside to paint. Yesterday she told him it has to be 60.  Make up your mind.

I am so ready to be done with all these people, that's for sure.

Here we go again

Well, here we go again. I guess DS's newest girlfriend is now pregnant! What. In. The. Hell.!! He's only been with her several months. She's like 39 years old! with 2 kids already (like 17 and 6). Just. Dumb. DS can't even take care of or support himself.  Just shaking my head. We haven't heard from him since Christmas Eve, when we talked to him when his Grandma just passed away. Had hoped he would keep in touch, but no.

I texted DD to tell her, but she was working, and couldn't respond right then, so then I texted my half-sis. She's just like me, haha. She says "is she on Facebook, can I creep her?" She said the same thing I was thinking. Last week she was making posts whining about not being treated right on Valentine's Day....then this week it's "I'm pregnant!".  Then DD texted me back. She hasn't heard from him anymore either, so she didn't know.  She felt the same as me. I think her exact words were "Good Lord". Yup. Enough said.

Back to regularly scheduled programming. It's a repeat/rerun of most other days, LOL.  There are supposed to be 3 separate crews working here today. It's almost 10 am and not a one has shown up yet. Gosh, this is getting old! They'll all show up in the next half hour or so. Take an hour lunch and all leave around 4 or 4:30.

Our garage doors are on, though. At least there's that.
When Dh was talking on the phone to our contractor yesterday, contractor said "I've got 11 houses to build and they all want to get started March or April". I told DH he should have said "ya? well,  how about you get the house finished you started LAST April?!!!!!!!!!

Is it Friday yet?

Tuesday tales

Got woken up at 4am to my phone ringing with a spam call. Rude! Usually I turn my ringer off before I go to bed, but I guess I forgot last night. I don't think I've ever gotten a call during the middle of the night for spam, but have gotten early morning texts (usually from Verizon notifying me my bill was auto paid) that woke me up. At least I was able to fall right back to sleep.

We went out to dinner last night at the restaurant in town. Just have to do that every so often to have something different from the monotony of meals cooked in the microwave and/or hotplate! It's a very reasonably priced place. We can get meals cheaper there than the little drive up burger place in the next town over! I think the drive up place is high priced because it's near a tourist stop. I had the french dip. It's really good, as they also put swiss cheese, onions and mushrooms on it.

The garage door installer just got back here this morning. He still has a bit to do. One last panel to install.........because it would have apparently been too much to spend 15 minutes getting it on there before they left yesterday!......so it sat with a partial opening all night. And they still have some of the hardware and door openers to install. Apparently he's going to drag this little bit left to do all day, LOL.

The taper guy showed up at 7:30 last night to get his stuff and (sorta) clean up. Did I mention that our neighbor told DH that the jail is, in fact, still closed....so obviously his story of getting thrown in jail last Thursday afternoon was a lie, LOL. Who would want to lie about something like that? Why not just make up a story that his truck broke down?

In addition to the $10.62 I made on M-Turks yesterday, this morning I received an email that one of those hits I did yesterday also paid me a $4 bonus. Nice! Good way to start out today, plus so far I've earned an additional $3.50.

Now we are trying to figure out why the garage door openers for the house garage doors are different than the ones for the shop garage doors. Good grief. The quotes have the exact same one listed and same price. The quotes have Liftmaster 8500. Supposedly our shop ones are 8500W and our house ones are just 8500- the difference being the shop ones have a battery back up system and the house ones do not.  Wonder if they are the same price? DH says he doesn't really care about the battery back up on the house. Maybe something to do with the battery back up on the shop because they are taller doors? I guess if DH doesn't care, I'm not going to worry about it. These doors on shop and house also have Wi-fi, so you can operate from phones. One of these days I'll figure that out, too.

I don't have to talk on the phone too much, with my job. Mostly everyone just emails. But there is this one guy who always has to call. He's called twice today. Just email me! LOL. It's not anything that can't be quickly done via email, rather than a stupid call where I feel like I have to keep repeating myself.  I get sometimes a call is better, when something is complicated to explain, but none of this is.

I'm waiting to see if I won a bid on an eBay item. DH has these two really old respirator masks, that he's had to use lately and wants to replace the filter cartridges. Well, apparently the masks are so old, they aren't even made anymore. I found a new in box set of 10 for one of his masks. I'm the only bid so far, with 2 hours left, so hopefully get it.  I still haven't found anything to replace the filters in the other mask. He's having the same issue with finding some accessory parts for his shop vac. It's so old! He always takes such good care of things, that they last too long, haha.

About nothing in particular

No work holiday for me today, which is fine. Most of the companies we do business with are also working, so it's a business as usual day.

The tape and texture guy finished up yesterday afternoon....but he still has to come back...he didn't bring his trailer with him so he could take all his "stuff" (tools, scaffolding, etc) with him. It's Monday afternoon and he still hasn't come back.

The garage door installers just showed up.  We weren't expecting them until tomorrow. It will be really nice to see garage doors on, rather than sheets of plastic! As they are installing the panels of the first door they are to the top and DH says "what about the windows?" They guy (he's same one who did shop and he's kind of a know it all) says "ya, they go on the top". DH says, no, they go down one row.......just like the shop doors, so they match!".  LOL.

I'm still trying to daily hit my goal with M-Turks. The weekend wasn't too lucrative. I only got .50 cents on Saturday and none yesterday. But, this morning, there was quite a few available and so far today I've managed to earn $10.62 Probably my highest daily amount, so far. Wish every day was like that. I did just read a tip that people accept a bunch of hits at once and then work on them, one by one, since you usually have time to complete. This way by the time they get done with one, the other hit's are gone/taken. I'll have to see if I can figure out how to accept several at once. I know when I first logged in this morning there were several high dollar surveys. I picked one and when I got done most of the ones I had first seen were now gone.

I video chatted with DD yesterday, so that was nice. We text, every day, off and on all day, but still nice to see and hear her sometimes! I talked to my mom on the phone this afternoon. She is dong well, and is getting her tax documents copied to mail me, so I can do her tax return for her. Last year she had a neighbor do it, which turned into me having to re-do her return, because it was done wrong. So, I have her back on track for me to do it. I had told her, after last year, that I am ok if she doesn't want me to do it, but then she should have someone licensed and bonded to do taxes....not some lady she barely knows, who could easily steal her identity!  DH still talks to his dad almost every day. His house still hasn't gotten listed yet. I guess all the snow hit them and the agent couldn't get it done, though now it's been over a week since then, and still not listed.

I have my lighting picked out. It's through Lowe's, but some have it for sale on ebay. Someone had one of the mini pendant lights on auction....for $64 (they sell for $79 at Lowes) OR best offer. So, I offered $60 and it was declined. OMG. Why bother even putting in that option if you aren't going to accept $4 less, LOL. Kind of ticked me off, so I didn't buy it, LOL. It wasn't like I was trying to low ball them!

Sunday morning....and it's snowing again

Well, the taper guy did finally show up at 1:15 yesterday, LOL. He's still not done, of course. He said by the time he got to the suppliers, they had closed early Friday and then he had to wait for someone to come open later Saturday morning. So, apparently he is coming again this morning to finish up today. He says he has about a half day of work left.

But, it's been snowing and still coming down. DH is out plowing again and so is our neighbor. Neighbor is smart - when it's coming down while plowing, he wears goggles! Gotta get DH some, haha. His new balaclava is helping keep his face warm, though.

Yesterday I didn't do a whole bunch. Still trying to get through this sinus thing. I did get our bedding washed up. Why is trying to get the last corner of the fitted sheet on need a person to be an Olympic athlete?! I took a nap, too.

I like never click on those facebook ads that come through my feed. But one caught my eye yesterday. Home decor of signs. I just wanted to see what they have and what the signs said. They had some paper scroll type signs. On sale for $20 (said reg $65) and free shipping deal. Well, I guess I was in a spending money mood because I bought this one:

The message just spoke to me and I wanted to hang it somewhere in my new house. Plus, my "Honey" app did it's magic and found me a 10% off code, so it was only $18. Not sure where I am going to put it, but I'm thinking in the downstairs guest half bath. They had two sizes of scrolls, I actually got the one that is narrower and longer, but showed this one in the picture above, because you can read it easier, haha.

I tried to watch some different stand up comedy shows on Netflix. They had some really funny content, but why they feel they have to throw in the graphic language and sex descriptions, I don't know. Guess I am just too old to enjoy! I don't mind some swearing, but these ladies (and guy) were very funny without the graphic details.  I can remember a long family trip we took in our motorhome to go racing with the kids. I bought a few comedy acts on cassette tape (yes, this was long ago, LOL). I specifically recall us all laughing our butts off to Bill Engvall.

oh hey........the taper guy just pulled in! Wooo. This should be the last day we have to see or deal with him. LOL.

Things I'm looking forward to

Whenever we finally get to move into our new house there are of course some things I'm looking forward to!

A bathtub! Gosh, I miss being able to soak in a bathtub.

A kitchen - it will be nice to make a whole meal again with an oven and a sink close by. And a refrigerator to hold everything.

Space......LOTS of space! Space to move, space to breathe, space to store stuff and stock up on stuff. A kitchen pantry. Closets.

I also want to be able to do a little sewing, like for some window treatments or throw pillows. I'm not a huge sewer, but I do have a sewing machine that my mom and gotten DD when she was younger (just a basic Singer model) and we did use it some, but we just didn't have a lot of space when she was growing up to keep a sewing machine out. And the last few times I used it (several years ago now!) the tension was all messed up and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I will have lots of room to set up the machine now for some projects so figuring out the tension problem will have to be first. I know it has something to do with the bobbin....I think.....Someday I'd like to learn how to make a quilt.

Did I mention a bathtub?

The tape and texture guy still is not done. He left early yesterday afternoon, because he said he needed to go pickup more supplies before they closed and that he was coming back this morning to work today, as he said he has to be done this weekend with this job. So, it's 10:30am and of course he hasn't shown up. Which means he didn't go get supplies, which means he won't be here until later Monday morning now, because he'll have to go get supplies then. (insert rolling eyes)

The garage did get finished painted yesterday by the contractor's guys, so that is ready for the garage doors to get hung next Tuesday.

DH is running out of room to push the snow into piles when he plows. It hasn't snowed for a couple of days, so that is good.

DH and our neighbor have been keeping our little road plowed all the way down to the end lot, where the younger couple lives. Honestly, I'm not sure why they have to do it! It's a long way down there and is wearing out our used quad and overheating it. DH stopped down there yesterday and told her that's about all he can do. She said they have a quad snow plow too, but her DH gets home from work and hasn't felt like putting the chains on it! DH is like well neither M nor I have needed chains on ours.....but DH also told me that he and M plow as soon as it gets a few inches deep, so it's easier to keep up with. Their driveway is deep now! it probably would take chains to get it plowed out.

I get the need to help neighbors and all, but they are making no effort at all to help themselves. He's a young guy - he should be out helping these two old guys! haha.

Flooring decisions

Yesterday afternoon Bob, the flooring guy came out again, to do final measurements. And I still hadn't finalized the flooring for bathrooms and laundry. Thankfully he brought a few samples :). He also brought his wife with him. She's as nice as he is. I'd say they are both in their 60's. I was wondering if he owns the flooring store and he does. They said their son will be the one installing our wood laminate flooring.

Last time he was here, the upstairs was getting framed, and now with all the changes to the upstairs floor plan, he had to re-measure a few areas.

Here is all my flooring samples laid out on the scaffolding. Not the greatest picture, but you get the general idea of what I have picked out
The left is the entry way tile, wood laminate through great room, dining, kitchen and den. Carpet in bedrooms, office and sitting room. Far right is bathroom and laundry room vinyl (kind of a stone look). Supposedly flooring is scheduled to start getting put in around March 1st. Soon!

The tape/texture guy keeps complaining how far (45 miles) it is to come out here.....yet if he'd take all the stinking days he only worked partial days, he could have been done 3 days ago! These people around here are something else, I tell ya. He showed up yesterday at 8am, sat in his pickup for 45 minutes (must have been on the phone), then left at like 1pm and was gone for the day. He said he was going to get lunch in town, never came back.

We just shake our heads and laugh when they complain about a 40 minute drive from the city. While my DD messages me that her 20 mile drive home from work took an hour and 20 minutes, because of traffic mess. These people don't know anything about long drives, LOL.

This morning taper guy pulls in at 8am. Sends DH a text message saying good morning. He didn't realize he had a warrant out in our county (from like 15 years ago) and he spent the night in the jail cell! Not even sure if we believe that (he came in this morning from other direction) as a week or so ago DH heard our little county jail was closed again, due to lack of staff. Not to mention on Monday he had told DH he was going to finish the inside by Wednesday, then go to another job he had on Thursday and come back and do our garage later.....so our guess is he really took off and went to that other job for the afternoon. Who knows. He did just explain to DH how it all transpired, so I guess it's possible. He said he went to town for lunch, got pulled over by not using turn signal. Found out about the warrant from when he was 22 years old. Went to jail. Called his dad in the city to come out and he paid the fine. Then he had to go back to the city and get cleaned up and change clothes to work this morning.

Just 2-3 more days of this guy and he will be gone out of our hair!!

It pretty much won't stop snowing. Our neighbor ended up driving his wife into work this morning and sounds like he will just stay in the city all day until she gets off. At least it's Friday and she gets the next couple of days off.

Today I was able to use my $10 Kohl's cash earned from buying DH's tennis shoes. I picked out a bathroom rug set on clearance. Regularly $40 and I got it for $4 after $10 and 30% off. And free shipping.

The color is "linen". I'm thinking to use them in the upstairs guest bathroom. From the description and reviews it sounds like it's pretty soft and plush.

TGIF!! It's been a long week with this stupid sinus crap. Plus today is my half work day Friday. Yay!

Winter wonderland

It's been pretty much snowing non-stop since last night. DH has plowed twice already this morning, starting at 6am. We weren't sure if the tape and texture guy was even going to show up today (he was supposed to be all done today.....BAHAHA!) and finish getting the garage textured, because the contractor is sending someone out the paint it, because the garage door guys are coming next week to hang the doors. He did finally show up. He's still got several days of work to finish the house, but DH needed the garage finished so the door install appointment stays on track.

The river has ice chunks floating down it.

DH had loaned our neighbor his fancy "snow plow shovel" to try out. Neighbor liked it so much they ordered one for themselves. And then of course he kept telling DH he'll give him the new one when it arrives and he'll keep ours. He is such a funny guy and not super handy with tools, which he freely admits. All's he had to tighten all the bolts was a crescent wrench. DH said give it me and he took it back to our shop and got everything all snug and tight. and wouldn't let him give us the new one, of course. Ours is fine, LOL.

Finally, 2 e-books have shook loose from the reserve category and I have something to read again. And now I can add two more to the hold list limit. Any recommendations?

My sinus's are starting to feel better today. Headache is mostly gone. Hopefully this is the direction it's headed now and the worst is over.

I was getting ready to pay some bills for mid-month. For almost a year now I've been mailing a $95/mo payment to the local sanican company because we have to have one on site here for the workers. I mail it with a stamp every month. Suddenly, I thought to myself, why am I not just sending them the payment through my online banking? Saving a .50 stamp! Done.

Housekeeping

It was time to do a little "spring cleaning" on my blog list of blogs I like to read. I noticed about 7 of them have not blogged in months. So, I sadly removed them. I didn't remove Linda with Practical Parsimony....according to updates from Sluggy, she is still working on trying to get back to blogging.

And I added a few new blogs I have been reading lately.  I do from time to time, like to check out other's blog list, so that I can also find new blogs to enjoy reading. I think that is how I found these. Either that, or when I get a commenter that isn't someone I recognize as a regular, I check to see if they have a blog link and check out their blog.

One in awhile I toss around the idea of changing my blog name, haha! With the kids grown and gone now, I don't feel like I'm so much a "family" anymore, since it's just me and DH now (and the doggos). But, figuring out  how to change it, without causing too much confusion, hasn't been on my list of priorities this past year. Well, that and I haven't come up with a new blog name that strikes my fancy, either.

On an unrelated topic, I follow a Facebook page that is for our town. People post things for sale, upcoming events, etc. I am just amazed at how people will post something for sale and not clean it up or make it look nice in the picture. They are all like that. Some used car guy (from the city) uses it to post pics of auto's for sale. For goodness sake, is it that hard to take a broom and sweep off all the snow on the car before you take a picture of it?! Someone will post a couch for sale.......complete with all their laundry and kids toys all over it. Is it that hard to pull the stuff off and take a good picture of it?! And don't even get me started on the places people will post on homes for sale. OMG! I see the same thing on zillow, when I just look around it to see what is for sale. Is it really that hard to clean up your place?!

4 months ago I took DH off of unafforable healthcare insurance and put him on a short term plan. It was a 4 month (the longest available). So, it's time to get another plan going starting March. I see now I can get the same plan again, but for a 6 month term now. The application/sign up process is quick, so I still have a bit of time this month to still get it done. I'm going to do a search of all available plans and see if any are even longer than 6 months (I don't think so, at least for this state). We are saving almost $6000 a year by dumping Obamacare. I'm still ticked that Trump and the Republicans seem to have just let this promise of reform to Obamacare just slide away.  While I approve of what Trump has managed to accomplish with this country, so far, health insurance was one of the main reasons I voted for him.

How much do counselors make?

I've been playing marriage counselor to my friend again. Ahhhhh!! She's been seeing a real counselor off an on....and she tells me what he advises her and it's exactly what I have told her! Hmmm...maybe I'm in the wrong profession. NO! I would go insane listening to people's problems all day, especially when you don't see them making any progress.

Friend did, a few days ago (at counselor's advice), take her cheating husband off her facebook. Like her counselor told her, why should he be allowed to have any insight into her life anymore? She still needs to file the divorce papers she filled out 2 months ago. The counselor and I both said, maybe actually having to sign them will be the wake up call he needs. But, she's still worried he will actually sign them. She doesn't talk to him very often anymore. Last time was 2 weeks ago (he was late paying her some of their bills) and when he does he is mean and rude to her.

I finally told her today, I'm sorry, but if this was me I would SO be over letting him treat me like this (it's been since mid summer). And just because she loves him still, doesn't mean he gets to treat her like this! She's sad, she's lonely, she's heartbroken. Of course she is, but at some point enough is enough. I told her it may not seem like it right now, but she can find happiness in her life again and she needs to. One baby step at a time. One step or decision leads to the next step towards happiness.  Just hoping and wishing he changes back in the the husband she used to have isn't going to work. And most likely is not going to happen.

Thank God before all this happened she had gone back to school and got her 2 year degree and a full time administrative job, so at least she is able to support herself (though she may end up having to sell the house if they divorce).

It's that time of year

It appears my annual winter sinus headache has arrived. It will last about a week or so and advil nor tylenol help one bit. Of course, I didn't think I have any sinus meds, since I only need them one week a year. Then this morning I remembered I have a box of misc bathroom stuff in a drawer and found some. That will at least help a little bit getting through this week.

I haven't read a book in a week now. Eeek! The only ebook in my borrowed bookshelf on my ipad is one I started but didn't read very long. I'm sure it's a good book, but I am tired of reading stories about WWII Europe. I've read so many the past couple of years.

So, I found a couple of movies to watch on Netflix, instead. Both were good. The first was The Hundred-Yard Journey, about a family from India who moves to a village in France and opens a restaurant. Helen Mirren owns a fancy french restaurant across the street. Can't go wrong with her in a movie. And the other was Wild Oats, with Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange. Sweet and funny, heartwarming movies.

But, I need some books to come off my hold list and give me something to read! It's getting ridiculous how hard it is to borrow a dang book anymore. I'm allowed to reserve 20 books and I have it filled up. Some of the books have been on hold since November! and it's not like they are new releases that everyone wants to read.

That's all I've got today - trying to work with a headache. Going to be a long day...........

it's a shopping day

Thanks to Sue and Susie Q's comments, I was able to use the Kohl's 30% off AND free shipping code to save on DH's tennis shoes. I got them for $45.50, they are regularly priced $69.  I was just under $5 total to earn $10 Kohl's cash. Well...since it's free shipping, too, I might as well spend $4.50 to get $10 more back (at least that's my logic). So, I scanned the clearance "aisle". I always especially like to see what they have for Christmas decor. I got a cute Christmas pillow, regularly $18 for $5.
Hopefully I can again use the same codes and buy something with the $10 Kohl's cash. There were some cute Christmas bath rugs that were under $10 on clearance, reg. $30.

DH and I got up early this morning and went to the city to do our bi-weekly grocery shopping trip. If it wasn't for milk and a few other things, we could almost make it 3 weeks. Oh well, good to get out of the house, too! We stopped at Home Depot first and got a few things needed.  Then to Target for toilet paper and laundry detergent. DH was like that's all we're getting here? I said yep, it cheaper than the grocery store. He scoffed at me! ha.! So I said, we'll compare prices at the grocery store.  The toilet paper was $1.50 cheaper and the laundry detergent was a whopping $8 cheaper. He believed me, then :)

It's cooold out. It was 2 degrees and really windy on the drive. And getting out of the car to walk in the stores....brrr! that was why he thought it was a waste to stop at Target - because we had to park and walk in the biting freezing wind. On the way out of the city, it was only 10:30, but since he's always hungry he decided to stop at McD's. We didn't realize they don't serve burgers until 11, so DH had to get an egg mcmuffin. It was so cold his car window wouldn't roll down.

On the way back, on the freeway, he was grumbling about a car in front of him who was speeding up, slowing down, then of course when he went in the fast lane (which no one was using as it has lots of snow on it) to pass, he grumbles as the car of course speeds up a bit....as we pass the car I realize it's our neighbor lady!! HAHA! I said "it's L!.....you can't yell at L!"  We got a good laugh over it. He then decided she's quite the Bada$$...being in  her late 60's and driving in this weather. She got home 3 minutes after we did LOL

I watched one of my favorite movies on Netflix last night, while DH was on the phone most of the evening. Billy Elliot. I just love that movie, probably seen it 4 or 5 times now, over the years.

More on extra income

Maybe I should complain more about trying to get enough M-Turk work.....no sooner than I posted that yesterday, then I was able to earn $6.55 yesterday with it. This morning I'm off to a great start and have done $5 already. My daily goal is $3, but if  I can find more, I try to do it, as I know there will be days when it's a big fat zero, especially on weekends.

I see that the tennis shoes I wanted to order DH from Kohl's are now on sale a big $5 off. I do also have a 20% off code, bringing it down to $52. Plus they are offering $10 cash back....but then to use up the cash back in 30 days (or however short time period is) I have to order something else online and I don't want to pay the $8.95 shipping for that either. But, they don't have free shipping unless you order $75. I think I'll do another online search through other stores and see if I can get them around that price, without having to order something else to get free shipping.

I switched from Swagbucks to Ebates for my online shopping cash back. I just got my quarterly "big fat check" deposited to my Paypal account. Just under $25, so about $8 a month. It's probably about same I would have earned via Swagbucks, except half the time I ended up not getting credit for purchases I made. Ebates just seems easier, all around, even though you do have to wait 3 months between payments.

I tried InBoxDollars. I earned almost $10 right away, but now it's painstaking and you have to get to $30 before payout. Plus, for some reason I cannot get any surveys to do now and if I try to watch their videos I get a message saying InboxDollars TV has been disabled on your account due to advertiser targeting issues or suspicious activity. I guess I'm going to just drop them. The emails to earn maybe a penny are getting annoying.

DH talked to his dad last night and he said he had gotten calls from DH's brother's too, who live in our area. He said they both said the weather is cold, snowy and miserable. DH just laughed and said well, I guess it's all in your perspective! DH said it's cold, snowy and beautiful!

The extra money

I've made about $80 with M-Turks so far since the first of this year. It is so hit or miss for me. Some days I can't get anything, some days I do ok, or at least make my goal. I wish I could find something that pays and is steady and I could do at a certain time of day (lunch hour is great for me) and know I'm going to earn something while I work an hour a day on it. At least, so far with only a little over a month into the year, I have made 25% of what I made doing it all last year. I'll just keep plugging away at it, and maybe in the meantime, I'll come across some other way to earn a little extra.

I suppose I should figure out how to do the "batch work". Then maybe I could just work for that hour and earn. For some reason, every time I try to look into how to do it, I feel like I'm not understanding how it works or the best way to do it.

It's been snowing and very cold out the past week or so and DH wanted to get a ski mask (balaclava...I have no idea how to pronounce it!) type of hat. I found one on Amazon for $13.99 and decided to transfer $13.99 of my M-Turks earnings over to an Amazon credit and that was easy and basically felt like I got it for free :) Usually I transfer the earnings into my checking account. Even though we order through Amazon a lot, I don't like the money just sitting in Amazon, if it could be in my checking, LOL.

Getting over the hump

We got a nice surprise yesterday - around 10am a crew of 3 additional tape and texture guys showed up to help the taper guy. Thank goodness! Though that's how many should have been here starting 2 weeks ago! Apparently they will just be here a couple of days - just getting taper to the point he can start texturing quicker. It did, at least, put DH in a better mood.

I think I have decided on what color of stain to use on the inside doors and trim. Golden Pecan.  The painter had showed me some pics of doors and trim she did and it was beautiful. Plus, my cabinets are a Pecan stain too. The floors are a bit lighter (but have several shades in the wood) and I think it will all look very warm and pretty. The cabinets will be a bit different with a pecan stain because they will also have a dark glaze on them. But, all the wood (cabinets, doors and trim) is a knotty alder, so a rustic feel. It will be awhile yet before I get to see all that installed!

I think our "metal art" for the front entryway rocks is finally done. Only took the guy like 2 or 3 months, haha. It sounds like he will be shipping it out to us tomorrow. This was our Christmas gift to each other. I will post pics when we get it, though I don't think we can install it until it warms up some, as DH has to do some gluing of it on the rocks.

The cabinet lady emailed that the cabinets have been ordered and scheduled for delivery week of 3/4, so just a month out. Though I'm sure the painting and staining inside won't be done by then, at least it will be nice to know they are here and ready to go.

DH has worn his oldest pair of tennis shoes out, so it's time to order a new pair so he can rotate them out. Since I last ordered a pair via Amazon (last year) they are now $15 higher priced! Geez. I found some on sale at Kohl's, plus 15% off coupon...but unless I spend $75 I have to pay $8.95 shipping. I hate paying shipping, but don't really want to spend extra money to get to $75 either, but there are tons of things we could use for the new house, so I'd be stupid not to, I guess. I'll have to scan through clearance and sale priced stuff and see if I can find something.

UPDATE: Well, now I'm annoyed! When I was on Kohl's website yesterday shopping for the tennis shoes it said they were on sale (like 30% off) through the 7th. I had a coupon in the mail for another 20% off, but it didn't start until the 8th.....which is specifically why I looked to see how long the shoes were on sale. I put them in my cart, along with a 15% off code I found online, and was going to order this morning. Now they are not on sale anymore, back to $70.  GRRRR.......

Big cat

We had some excitement yesterday afternoon, that kept DH occupied for awhile.  First we heard one of neighbors dogs letting out his big howl. Then we heard a bunch of dogs barking off in the distance. DH went outside and the sound was coming from the state land across the road. Kind of a woodsy area with a big cliff. Bark bark bark! Neighbor came outside too. They determined it was still cat hunting season, so it must be someone with dogs that treed a mountain lion. Non-stop barking and howling for like 15 minutes by then.  DH decided to drive his quad over on the trail road to the cliff and see if he could see it.

Turns out it was two hunters with hound dogs. DH was down by their truck watching/waiting. Heard two shots. Figured they got it. Then like 5 or 10 minutes later heard like 4 more shots. DH texted me that apparently the cat only got injured with one of the first two shots (ugh). Dogs went on chase again and treed it. Then the hunter shot it down. Apparently he wasn't a very good shot! When they got it back to their truck, DH (and by now our neighbor had gone over on his quad, too, because he wanted to see it) texted me pics of it. Awww.... poor cat. Then I was kind of sad for it, but dang, those things are pretty big. Must be the tracks Dh saw over there a couple weeks ago, as big as his boots next to it.

DH texted the lady who lives down the road about a mile - she had seen a mountain lion on her back deck several months ago, so she was relieved that it was taken care of. The hunter guys said it was very healthy and could tell it had been eating good. There are lots of deer and elk around here, that's for sure. And they said they saw wolf tracks too up there. I guess they are allowed to hunt so many mountain lions per season, to keep the population under control. They guy said it was 30 in our county and 16 have been killed so far. DH could never kill one, but he said it was interesting to watch the dogs at work. Certainly a different way of life, from where we came from!

DD had a bunch of (not usual) snow Sunday night. She and DF made it into work yesterday, though in her office most people just worked from home. She had been told she can't work from home until she's been there 6 months (it's been like 4). But, this morning her boss told everyone to work from home, because still lots of snow and ice on the roads (no snow plows there, they just have to wait for it to warm up and melt, which is usually a day or two). She's happy to get to work from home today, though her DF had to drive in, as his job isn't a work from home type of job.

Mostly snow

It is really Monday already?! We were pretty boring this weekend. Friday late afternoon we drove (with the dogs) over to the next town down the highway to get some burgers and milk shakes from the little mom and pop place. They always give the dogs some bacon :)

Our neighbors were gone since Thursday. They have a friend come and feed their dogs twice a day....only Saturday she didn't even show up until noon! Plus it's so sad watching them just sit outside being so sad. They can go inside to the laundry room via their doggy door, but they sit out and wait. It makes DH so sad. He went over around 11:30 am on Saturday and gave them dog biscuits to tide them over until their feeder showed up. They got home early yesterday afternoon. DH didn't tell them about the late morning feeding, but he did say to them that when we get in our house and they go out of town, the dogs might just have to camp out at our house, LOL.

It rained a whole bunch Saturday night and most of yesterday morning. Then the temps dropped about 10 degrees in an hour and turned to snow and it lightly snowed the rest of the day and is snowing again this morning. I'm sure our taper guy won't show up....yet our 67 year old neighbor lady can make it into the city (from where he is coming from) to work! He was supposed to come yesterday and work, but of course never showed up.

FIL got his house listed for sale, using the agent we used to sell our house in 2016. Hopefully it will sell fast and all go smoothly for him. She was able to list it for quite a bit more than I figured she would, based on it's condition, so that's good too. The neighborhood is pretty decent and down the street from an elementary school. Plus, it's on older neighborhood built in the 80's so the houses have good sized lots, not built 5 feet from each other. FIL told DH that hopefully he won't have to use up much of the money and then it can be split 4 ways between DH, his brothers and sister, when he passes.  DH keeps telling him not to worry about that! Last night he made strange comment to DH that SIL (who he is living with now) said she's worried there won't be enough money for his care if he has to go to a care home.......WHAT?!  Even if he only ends up with $200k out of his home when all is said and done, between that and his monthly social security and pension, that should last him several years in a care home (based on that they cost about $6,000 a month). And if he's still around that long, well, then that's when medicaid would have to kick in.

DH got to keep a little busy yesterday, plowing our driveway. He's at it again this morning. We loaned our neighbor our little "push snow plow on wheels". It has like a hand push cart thing with a plow on the end to do like walkways. He loves it and is trying to buy his own, but I guess they are on backorder. He told DH he'd bring it back and DH told him just use it, we don't have any walkways yet. So, then he said when he can order it's twin brother, he'll give us the new one, LOL. That's something DH would do.

I just read some and finished watching the "Manifest" episodes that are available. I still am having a hard time finding e-books to borrow from my library. I actually have a long list of books I want to read, but every single one has a waiting list, it seems. Even old books! like an Agatha Christie book. I did manage to get 2 to read since last Friday and am almost done with the second one last night.

We aren't football fans at all, so no care about the Superbowl here. Even before all this kneeling for the national anthem crap, I've thought for years that these professional sports players are way overpaid and the average joe can't even afford one ticket to a game, let alone take their family.

I'm ready to just sleep all weekend

Well, so much for the extra approximately $5000 we were going to save on the drywall/tape & texture portion of our construction costs.  The contractor has it all one line amount. When the drywall bill came in, DH asked him how much the tape/texture guy would cost. Contractor said "he said it will be $5,000-$6000".  We finally breathed a huge sigh of relief that something was available to to towards all the overages.  Last night DH was talking with the taping guy - he said he told the contractor it will be $10,500. WHAT IN THE $*#&?!  Is our contractor just a total screw up or what. Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true.  It just seems very suspicious that after the drywall bill there was almost exactly $10,500 left in the budget for the taping.....coincidence?

DH talked with the framing guy, who still has to build our staircase, and now that is going to be more...gee- we only showed the contractor pictures of what we wanted, several times, even emailed the picture.  But, of course he couldn't estimate using black bolts and bracing, which will cost about an extra $100 per stair, vs. him using galvanized.

I gave the contractor a check for concrete work (because he used up all our money allocated on the shop construction loan for other overages that was supposed to cover all the concrete work) the day after Christmas for $1450. He still hasn't cashed the check. At first I thought he was probably holding onto it to wait and deposit it in 2019, because he didn't want to claim the income in 2018. It still hasn't been cashed. I was going to ask him about it, but he's been such a douche-bag, I'm thinking I'm just going to ignore it. Of course, I have already taken it out of my checking balance, the day I wrote it.

Found out yet another couple we are friends with are moving out from where we used to live. This family is going to Arizona. Including us, that makes 6 that have left the area, and there are another two guy friends who are in the planning stages. Seems like a pretty high percentage of friends leaving that area, but I guess that could be skewed since we don't have a lot of friends, haha! The ones that have moved are all very happy and realize there is a lot more "normal" life that doesn't include drug dealers and addicts next door, homeless camped all around and in your town, etc.
