Just relaxing

All our nice spring weather is gone this morning, LOL. It was snowing this morning. We've got a couple inches so far. Poor DH. He gets so impatient once he's ready to start something.  At least he's found something to keep busy with today.  Our neighbor across the street is getting ready to build a metal pole building shop. He's having someone build it for him, but he's getting the ground ready for a concrete pad. Apparently he doesn't have much knowledge on the best way to go about this. DH was over there earlier today, while neighbor was with his FIL. He had put some gravel down earlier last week, but it basically just sunk down into the topsoil.  His FIL kept saying he was doing it right. No need to go to all the trouble to do it right (basically. LOL) DH was just keeping his mouth shut.  Finally neighbor asked DH what he thought he should do, so DH told him if it were him, he'd get that topsoil out of there first, get it all level and then he can put down the rock base. He also told him he really should have it rolled in to compact. If he doesn't, it will all still look great at first, but after a few years or less, his concrete slab will probably start to crack. DH came back home and a bit later neighbor called to ask him another question. DH went back over there for awhile and then came back home and got his surveying machine to take over there, saying neighbor is admitting he doesn't really have a clue how to do this. LOL. DH will get him all advised on how to go about it.

I've just been relaxing.  Talked to my mom on the phone a bit. Watched a bit of tv and doing some reading. It's a nice relaxing Sunday. Most of the snow has already melted, which is good. It was pretty wet snow.  I feel a nap coming on.

It will be kind of a short work week coming up. I'm taking most of Tuesday off to go sign our loan papers and then taking most of Friday off for a doctor appointment for my annual physical.

Hope you are all enjoying a nice Sunday!

  1. Putting down chirt (rocks, you say) and pressing it down does make a base for building. I see guys take a front end loader and scrape out a road that soon is all mud and gullies. My friend's father did that and paid for it to be done, but he would never do it right. I feared my car bottom would be ripped out every time I went there. I just relaxed today until I could get to the doctor's office.

I am sure your husband has a willing hand if he ever needs a bit of help.

    1. Yes, he's the type of guy who would help us out too. He's like DH, though, if someone helps him he feels like he owes him back. Neighbor already sent him home yesterday with some elk hamburger, LOL

  2. Your dh is correct. We had a 24x50 barn (odd size back then) and had the slab done in a similar way. In the 15 years we had it, we had zero cracks. On a side note, we also put in the pipes for plumbing with the intention of adding a bathroom. Far easier than going through concrete at a later point.

I am so excited that you are closing on your loan! Woohoo!

    1. DH's dad was a concrete guy, who did all the concrete at our old house. 25 years and still looked great. We close tomorrow!!
