Our mason guy is done. Yay! Boy, all these self employed subcontractors sure make a lot of money, LOL. Who needs a college degree? Just learn a trade and go into business for yourself. They all have more work than they can handle (because there's not enough of them to do all the work). I'll bet if they'd work a 40 hour week (this guy sure seems to, though one of the few) they make six figures a year, easy. He sure was a nice guy though. Supposedly, we are invited to a BBQ he has next month. I think he lives up north about an hours drive.
DH is taking a much needed "sleeping in" morning. Now that we had the final bill from the mason (and no surprises) we do have a little bit of money still in the bank, to put towards our next stuff that needs to be done. We were holding on to it, to make sure we had enough to cover his final bill. We don't have a lot, but will have to figure out the priority to allocate it to what still needs to be done. We need some gravel for our driveway, so we can use our garage and shop parking pads! It needs to be added to fill in, up to the parking pads, so there is a smooth driving transition. We also need the shelving in the closets and pantry. We need to take a trip to the dump to get rid of all the construction debris that is in the little dump trailer. That will be at least $300 to dump it. But, then DH can use the trailer for a couple of projects and then he is supposed to sell it.....I say supposed, because DH can rarely sell anything once he owns it. But, that has always been the plan since he got it 2 years ago. He should be able to get $6000-$6500 for it and we need that to finish up things here. Landscaping, the fencing, a riding lawn mower, etc. You watch...he'll have some excuse why he needs to keep it, rather than selling it. He won't want it parked outside (it's a bit of an eyesore) so he'll cram it in his shop and be back to having a shop that he can't move around in.
The woodworking guy delivered our farmhouse table yesterday! It's gorgeous. He does really nice work and it's nice that it's more personal, since it came from trees on our property. It's nice the trees got used for something purposeful, rather than DH's buddy who was originally offered to come and get the cut trees for his firewood! (he was too lazy to come and saw it up).
And the dress I got at Target for $25 do wear to DD's wedding (T'Pol asked for a photo)
TGIF!
The table is very nice.
ReplyDeletehe did a very nice job on it.
DeleteLove the table! Are you going to have chairs or benches with it? Excellent buy on the dress. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteJust curious about how your mortgage process going? Will your bank need to see how the money was used? I'm trying to learn all I can about construction loans for a future (once our consumer debt is paid off!) addition. Would still prefer to cash-flow it, but when the time comes, we will likely need a little help.
Not sure if I'm answering your question correctly, but during the build process all bills/receipts for draws had to be signed off by me, the contractor and the bank. They sent someone out several times to make sure the progress was what has been submitted for. There will now be an appraisal done for this mortgage loan.
DeleteI wondered how it worked with the money. While we really don't want to take on more debt, we also want to make the changes to our house while we are still young enough to enjoy it! Lol
Deleteand yes, I need to get 6 chairs. The one's I have don't match and have only 4. I found some one Ashley website I really like, so I'm thinking about them. Again, trying not to spend much, but want them to look nice.
DeleteFrom what I know of you, I'm sure you'll find some good deals! On a side note, check out some of those freebies FB groups - the ones that do the Amazon seller reviews. I've been getting some great stuff lately! Today was a hairdryer (retailed for almost $50) and my cost was less than $4. It will make a good gift for my daughter!
DeleteI'll have to try to find them on FB - do I just search amazon freebies or ?
DeleteI just checked and didn't realize it was a closed group. Not sure if it will show up but it is called V.I.P - Freebies Training Group. It has almost 1300 members, but even with that many members, I've been getting a lot of free (or almost free) stuff! If it doesn't, I see that I can send you a link via email. Do you use the one connected with your comments on my blog? I *think* I should be able to find that! If you aren't comfortable with that, I understand.
DeleteNever mind. I hovered over the "closed" tag and see that anyone should be able to find it! If for whatever reason you can't, let me know and I'll send you a link.
DeleteThe table is very nice. Some people are really talented. Nice dress! Perfect for a summer wedding. You can wear it later on for other occassions too.
ReplyDeleteDH was like "oh, I couldn't have built the table that nice! LOL". I like the dress and I didn't need to spend a fortune, either. Last time I bought a dress for for dd's graduation...and haven't worn it since, haha.
DeleteI was waiting to see the dress picture she asked about. It is very nice. You should wear it more often. Husband might like you to do so, not that I think you should wear what he wants. It is nice that the table wood came from your property. Can he not park the trailer behind his shop. I never think a trailer parked on property is an eyesore as long as there are not six-foot weeds growing in and around it.
ReplyDeleteI'm just not much of a dress wearing person. He was originally going to park it behind the shop(until it's sold) but has decided to plant grass there instead of gravel the area, plus our neighbors would then have to look at it sitting behind our shop. Hopefully, he will just sell it fairly soon, per the plan.
DeleteThat table is beautiful - as is your dress. Wish I could wear dresses but ... oh well. And I really hope you're right about tradesmen - what with son no. 2 being a plumber. Actually I already have loads of people asking for him (all the more so since he speaks English and French) but the problem, at least at the beginning, is buying the equipment - which is really expensive. Still he'll get there!
ReplyDeletethank you. yes, some of the tradesmen seem to need to invest in equipment, while other's not so much - mostly just their labor. The mason had a few tools and supplies. I'm sure the electricians need more. I guess I kind of compare to when DH was in heavy equipment...HUGE investment compared to what these types of tradesmen need and yet they seem to make more!
DeleteYour dress is very pretty! And, how wonderful to have a table made from wood from your trees!
ReplyDeleteThe table is gorgeous and will last a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress. It's very pretty and comfortable looking. That was a good find!
Your new table is beautiful! Are you going to buy a large area rug to put underneath?
