Happy Friday and happy payday to me. Plus it's with my new salary amount :) A couple weeks ago I opened that Bank of American checking, online, in order to earn the $300 bonus. I had to have $2000 direct deposited, so that has now been taken care of, and I will watch the account for the $300. The next checking bonus offer I am going to take advantage of is Citibank. They are offering $325 with $3000 in direct deposits.
DH got the 2 big drawers he built installed underneath the wood work bench/table and filled up with his stuff. Some of the stuff he was able to move off the shelves of his long "general" work table he has set up along the wall as you come into his shop door. In the other big drawer he was able to empty out one of his big storage bins, he has up in his loft. He has one more small drawer to make for it. For this smaller drawer he will have to go buy some plywood, as he doesn't have any scrap pieces left to use.
I had tried those protein powders (chocolate and vanilla) to replace my daily breakfast of the Carnation instant breakfast powder (when it got so expensive there for a bit, it's come back to regular price now). I had also read that too much protein can result in your body just turning it into fat......I'm guessing maybe that's why I'm still (slowly) gaining weight?! I tried to increase my protein intake for a few months, there. But, in doing more research I'm likely already getting enough protein per day (especially since I don't work out). Gosh, it's sooo frustrating. I am very happy with my reduction in added sugars, so at least I've managed to conquer that addiction. I do have the occasional sweet treat, but on a regular daily basis, I have none.
So, anyway, now that the Carnation stuff is back to a regular price I've decided to go back to that. I was looking to order some more and saw the kind they make that is liquid form in the bottles. Of course, I've seen that before, but I've always just ordered the powdered kind and added my own milk. That's why I go through so much milk a week. I had a thought this morning. I'm going to try ordering a 6 pack of the pre-made liquid kind and see if I like it. It would actually be a little cheaper that way for me. When I mix the powder with milk I am mixing in a large glass and I actually use about 14oz of milk (not the 8 oz on the directions), so between the cost of the packet of powder and 14 oz of (organic) milk, the premade drink option is cheaper per day (but it is only 8 oz, but I'm sure that will be fine).
The main reason I want to try having this breakfast drink, is then I will not need to buy so much milk! Milk is one of the main reasons we even have to go shopping every 3 weeks, haha! I only have enough room in our fridge for so much at a time, and I'm always getting very low or running out. I also use a cup of milk when I make my "yogurt pudding" every 2-3 days. I've tried having the shelf milk (like Parmalat) as a back up, but I just do not like the odd taste it has. I also do not really like freezing milk. It takes days to thaw out and I just find it annoying to deal with.
I just got an email at work from someone that has this quote in their
signature line: “ It is not Joy that makes us Grateful. It is
Gratitude that makes us Joyful."---Anonymous. I like it!
I suppose the Instant Breakfast sales went down, so they brought the price back in line. For years, that was my breakfast. If you freeze a pint jar full, thawing is not so annoying. Use straight-sided Ball jars. They can sit in freezer and then sit in refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteWe use disposable plastic. No matter what size we buy, Tommy always fills the glass for me, so, I insist on smaller size. Since milk I have to buy is $5.39 for a half-gallon, I don't want to just drink more I even want.
Can we see a picture of the drawers?
Here comes one of my “Mean-Mommy-Know-It-All” (as my kids used to call me behind my back) comments. Dealing with the dietary needs of a T2 diabetic, as well as from my post graduate work, I can tell you that aside from causing a weight gain due to slowing metabolic rate, too much protein is very hard on your kidneys, even without underlying issues, and can cause a decrease in your GFR. (Glomular filtration rate.) It can also cause kidney stones. If those are anything like gallstones, they are miserable! You CAN mitigate those effects by drinking loads of water. And by loads I mean 64 ounces *minimum* between the time you get up until four hours before you go to bed. All this to say, you’re healthy overall, so if you like your Carnation Breakfast drink, have at it! (And drink more water.)
ReplyDeleteI have never had shelf stable milk, but if it’s anything like shelf stable orange juice, I can imagine the “off” taste. I found a bottle of shelf stable orange juice in deep clearance once (Langer’s) and thought I would tuck it in the pantry for Chris mimosas. A kid found it beforehand, though. He didn’t mind it, but the rest of us definitely noticed a “taste.”
Happy Friday!
-Meg B.
Ugh, autocorrect: *Christmas* mimosas. Although, I do know a Chris, and I am sure she would enjoy a mimosa!
Deletefor someone like me (ie not very health food knowledgeable), figuring all this out is going to be trial and error, I'm sure.
DeleteI'm curious about the checking offers. Do you just need one direct deposit, then can cancel, or how do you get multiple offers to pan out? Believe me, I'm sorry intrigued wherever we can earn a bit more funds. I but the shelf stable milk all the time, but don't use for drinking. It's been great for my coffee, cooking, and in cereal or oatmeal. It's nice to have in hand and not run to the store. I do know what Meg is saying about the shelf stable OJ, sort of takes in the packaging flavor but again, as a gap filler or maybe to keep on hand for mixed drinks, I could probably handle it.
ReplyDeleteI think I got the BoA offer via email and the Citibank one via the mail. You can do one qualifying (like paycheck, SS, pension) direct deposit (if you have enough) or it can be split up into more than one. In the BoA offer they required $2000 in direct deposits within 90 days of opening the account. Another requirement, to keep from having a monthly fee on the account is to have $250 a month in DD, which I will change it to, while I keep the checking account open. Once you've received the bonus, you can cancel (that's what I did with the SoFi checking). With the Citibank offer, the direct deposit requirement is $3000. My payroll system makes it easy for me to add/change banks for direct deposit, so I might as well take advantage of the extra money and I like that I don't have to mess with my credit score/open a credit card (though I will do that for good offers as well).
DeleteHappy Friday! I am so glad it's the weekend. I buy fresh whole organic milk to bake and cook with but neither of us drink milk so can't say what's good or not. Have you checked the ingredients in the carnation breakfast drink to make sure it's relatively healthy? I know I heard Ensure is terrible and full of chemicals.
ReplyDeleteit's probably not the best - definitely processed food. That will be a hard one to give up - it's been my breakfast for 45 years LOL. I like the organic milk too, partially for the long use by dates.
DeleteI drink a protein shake every morning for breakfast. I scoop of unflavored protein powder,1 cup almond milk, 1 tsp cocoa,1 TBL natural peanut butter and half of a frozen banana. Blended up. I love it and fills me up until lunch time.
ReplyDeleteI use the unsweetened almond milk.
