Insurance dilemma

Hmpf. So, last month we did our annual benefits enrollment through work. I was told by my boss that STD (short term disability) was now being done through their state (like SUI and L&I), and no longer a company paid benefit (with no health screen ever required) obtained through an insurance company. I asked (to make sure) if I was covered, since I live in a different state. She said she checked and I was not, so go ahead and sign up for the voluntary STD offered through our benefits, and they would reimburse me. I also signed up for additional life insurance (at a cost to me). Both of these insurances are through the same company (Metlife). I did the health questionnaire and health screen with the nurse that came here. It appears my dr. also got a questionnaire, as they had called to ask me a question.

I just got notification that they approved me for the extra life insurance, but denied me for the STD, reason being is my "SVT" (Supra ventricular tachycardia). According to what I have been told since diagnosed with it some 25 + years ago, is that it's not dangerous or harmful to me. Just a big annoyance when my heart starts racing. I take a pill for it the last 23 years and problem pretty much solved.

So, now I apparently no longer have STD if I become ill, to help cover my wages temporarily. My boss had said she checked and I wasn't covered under their state, living in another state. But, I just did some google searching and it sounds like it shouldn't matter that I live in another state. I should still be covered by my company paying into my state for me, as an employee, just as they pay into the state for unemployment and L&I, for which I am covered, living in another state. This is a new program for their state, so maybe they just aren't quite sure yet how it all works. I'm hoping she's wrong and I'm still covered and they are actually paying in for me. What I just read is that they have to ask for a waiver to not include me. Hopefully, my boss can get this figured out.

Our new air exchanger system doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot to reduce our humidity level in the house and hvac guy can't figure out why. It did come down to about 47%, but is supposed to be around 40% or low 40's. He wanted dh to leave it running continuously for a week or so, to get it down and then turn it on "auto" so it only comes on when it senses the humidity is increasing. Now he wants dh to try turning it off at night and see if that changes anything. Well, this morning it's back up to 50%, so that didn't work. That's a LOT of money to spend and not have it work, though I'm sure there are other benefits to having our air exchanged, living in such an air tight new home.

Quite awhile back (at least a month ago) I called the flooring place and ordered 2 of the transition strips for our laminate flooring. I assumed they would have to be ordered in, as they didn't stock the flooring when we bought that. I completely forgot to check back in with them if it came in! I called yesterday and they couldn't find anything on it either! They were so apologetic and I said no, it's really not a big deal. I totally forgot about it, too, and it's not something we need right away, just wanted to make sure we have it when we do finish our bonus room, and it wasn't discontinued when we needed it. She is supposed to have the guy call me, I think that was supposed to order it, but haven't heard back from him yet. She is thinking maybe he put it under the wrong name. I was hoping they'd say, yes they are here to pick up. I REALLY need groceries, and decided not to go in to pick up this past weekend and wait until I could also go in a weekday morning and pick up the flooring stuff. I was hoping to do that tomorrow, but it's not sounding likely, now.

And then I realized that attorney's office I talked with last Thursday, regarding my mom's will, never emailed me the info they were supposed to. An "agreement" to sign and also where I'm supposed to mail the check. I emailed her this morning and got them back on the ball with that.

I've been watching that Big Sky show. It's getting a little hard to believe, LOL. Like the police find a frozen dead body in a lady's house and her blood and she's missing and they just leave the house not watched, so the killer(s) can come back?! LOL. I finished up the first season after dinner. Then I decided to re-watch Resident Alien. It's even funnier the 2nd time around, LOL.

And another sign that it was good I took my mom's checks from her. She called yesterday morning, about to mail off yet another check to TV Guide to renew. I reminded her I have the checks now and that she already sent them a check several weeks ago. She even said well, it's probably good you have them, then. Not that she'll remember later, or remember I told her to throw that TV Guide renewal notice in the garbage, but at least she can't pay it again. And when the time comes for her to send a wedding gift/check later this summer, I will be able to rest knowing she hasn't sent more than one check (she did that to dd for Christmas).

My mom's place started back up with all meals for everyone in the dining room Monday. I'm sure that is much better for all. Getting out of her apartment, even besides activities, 3 x a day is good. Hopefully she'll meet some more people she hasn't gotten to, with all the restrictions the past year.

Today's one of those days I sometimes wish I didn't know all the company's money details. Like the managers just got a big bonus....yet almost no one has gotten a raise now in over 2 years.........

  1. You have been busy putting out fires lately. Yes, your mother does need other activity, so maybe she will not worry about things that come in the mail. I wonder if some mistake in the construction has any bearing on the high humidity in your house.

    1. we think it definitely has to do with how they did our "attic" and insulation space. The HVAC guy (who used to own the insulation company) is working with the insulation guy now to help figure it out.

  2. Hopefully with other things to occupy your mom now that things are opening back up & she will be able to do more activities, she'll forget about some of that mail business. I can't imagine having to try to catch checks before she sends them out, so best you have them! I hear ya on knowing too much of the company business - I worked in HR years ago & had access to everyone's yearly salary - and it was stomach turning at times! Sometimes it's just better not to see that stuff! :-/

    1. Half the time I call her now, she is busy doing something, LOL. Though if you asked her what she did during the day, she really can't remember. She knows she did stuff, but doesn't really remember exactly what activity or what it was called.

  3. Eewwwerr, I didn't have my glasses on when I started reading this and thought you were being awfully forthright about getting insurance for sexually transmitted diseases!
