Back to work and cash back

DD's company has now said they have to be back working in the office 4 days a week, starting in September. She's not too thrilled about. Mostly because they have been making it sound like they will do a hybrid model and 4 days a week doesn't feel too much like a hybrid. Plus, when working at the office pre Covid she and her dh always carpooled to save on gas, which of course they especially want to do now a days. But, her dh got his hours changed and now starts at 5:30am (I think it used to be 6 or 6:30) so to carpool dd will have to start her workday at 5:30. I think she has the flexibility to do that, but she's just not wanting to have that be her new schedule from now on. She'll have to be up like 4am. I'm sure she'll get used to it, she's just not at the moment too excited about it. It's about a 30 minute commute each way, so they really don't want to drive separate cars when they work at the same place.

I'm having the worst time being able to call my mom during the day, LOL. Yesterday morning she never did go down for breakfast and slept in her recliner until like 10am. I didn't want to call and wake her up, but then saw she got up and was in her room getting dressed. I was going to wait and call her after she was all dressed, but then my boss started messaging me about something, so I was dealing with that for about 15 minutes. By the time I got done with that mom was dressed and gone from her apartment, LOL. Then she wasn't back until after lunch, by which time I had started watching a training meeting for work so I couldn't call her then. When I got done 40 minutes later she was napping so I didn't want to disturb her. Finally about a half hour later I was able to get in a call to her. She's decided that now her desk chair has been switched on her, LOL This one is comfortable, but it's ugly, haha. Instead of trying to convince her it's the same chair she's had for years I just said "oh that is strange. I'll have to look into it next time I come visit".

I was standing at my kitchen sink rinsing out a glass and my back just started hurting for no reason, shortly after I was done working for the day. I ended up going to bed a little early which is probably why I forgot to set the camera app for motion detection/recording. Now the pain has shifted to behind my left shoulder. I just tried my foam roller. Usually my first pass rolling over it my back pops all kind of pops along the way. Just now - nothing. That's probably not good. I'll have to try again a little later, I guess.

I guess I'm going to have to call our county licensing office. We had gone in there to license/do the title stuff last week but they needed the actual title paperwork from the dealer. She said usually they mail it direct to them, then once they get it they mail us a card notifying us it's in and she gave us a temporary plate. Of course dh is Mr. Worrywort so when we got back home he had me call the dealer to see if they did/would be mailing the title. He was like "how do they know where to mail it?"...ummm....from our address...they can find out which county we live in...."how do they know the address to the county?" umm....they can look it up on the internet....So, I called the dealer and she said yep, she mailed it to our county the day before (so Tuesday of last week). Well, we still haven't gotten the card notifying us, so now he's worried they didn't get the title. Of course I am the one who has to call to check. Most likely they have it, but I'm sure it's just a matter of the lady is behind because the other lady who works in the licensing office with her quit. I'm sure she is just behind in work and I hate to call her, but dh gets himself convinced it got lost in the mail and if we wait several weeks (until our temporary is about to expire) to check on it, we'll find out "no, we didn't get the title". And watch, I'll call this morning and then when dh goes to get the mail later the notification card will be in the mail (though it's not showing with my informed delivery).

Speaking of deliveries, UPS came around 2:30 again yesterday. DH told the driver "you may not like your shortened day, but I gotta admit it's nice getting the deliveries in the afternoon instead of late evening...."

I use the "Honey" app on my computer for online purchases. It looks for coupon codes and also awards points for some purchases that once you have the equivalent of $10 you can either cash in towards your paypal balance or for a gift card. I just transfer it to paypal. Recently I got $20 cash back reward from a large Walmart purchase (I can't remember now what - I think it was the dehumidifier) and they gave me the points credit in about a week. I just now got $16 cash back from Farmer's Dog. I totally forgot about that deal. It took almost 2 months to credit me. This week I just made a purchase from a vitamin supplement store to reorder the supplement dh is trying. I also decided to order me some multivitamins and for that purchase Honey is giving back $15.21. Hopefully it won't take 2 months like the Farmer's Dog did.

Another way I'm saving another 1% on purchases when I can is by checking out with PayPal when that option is entered. I have a Paypal rewards credit card that has always given me 2% cashback on all purchases, but recently they added another 1% if you check out with Paypal. So, now I pay attention when I'm checking out, if that is an option, and use that. I've found that almost all my purchases have that option, so I'm getting another 1% cashback. It all adds up. I just ordered some blinds for dh's den that are $125 (they were 45% off for wood blinds) so I received $3.75 cash back instead of $2.50 by checking out through Paypal.

I also have the Rakuten app on my computer. It also searches for coupons and often has cashback offers, too. Often I can get both Rakuten and Honey cash back/points. With my vitamins purchase the other day I am also getting back $2.76 from Rakuten and with the blinds purchase I just made I got another 1.5%, $1.87 back. The only thing I don't really like about Rakuten is they only pay out quarterly, but it is what it is. I've been using it for years and for my lifetime cash back it's almost $500. Just for having an app on my computer for purchases. I'll take it :)

  1. I feel for your daughter having to go back into the office. So many people are in for a shock when that happens here. My son is going in two days a week now, but only because they are renovating his building, but five days a week will take some adjusting to! I know if (when?) my other son gets a job in Switzerland he will be up at the crack of dawn too because of the commute from hell. You're so lucky to be able to work from home (but I'm sure you already know that right)?

    1. I am so lucky to be able to work from home full time. My company has been doing a hybrid schedule for the office staff for several months now - in the office Tues-Thurs, work from home Mondays and Fridays. When we had our company party last month my boss was asking my dd about their work schedule and her opinioins on it - I think she was just trying to get an idea of how people really feel, LOL.

  2. I personally think working from home makes a lot of sense for so many folks. People have this mentality that employees must be in the office ... but if DD has done so well in over 2 years, why the rush to go back to their "hybrid" model? One day WFH isn't much, I think 2 or 3 from home should be the standard!

    1. dd said they asked for employee feedback a few months ago about returning to work and she said she'd prefer working from home and just going in one day a week (for their dept meeting), maybe 2 days.

    2. I highly doubt that their employees said anything that pointed to 4 days in office in the surveys. Smh!!

  3. I think everyone I know that was working from home has had to go back. My dd was told they’d be hybrid, but then they decided nope, back in the office 5 days a week. My Dh made everyone come back because people weren’t getting their work done, and were even running errands when they were supposed to be working. Heck, my oldest dd just texted me to say one of her coworkers just snuck out of the office and no one knows where she is. She just leaves when she thinks no one will notice. Can you imagine her working from home? Not everyone is a responsible employee, and it’s hard for a company to say ok, you’re good, you work from home. You’re bad, work in person.

  4. That would be a brutal work schedule for your daughter, but she is young and can handle it. I would hate to go to work so early.
I suppose your mother will have forgotten about the chair switch by the time you see her. I sort of fret about things like your husband does, but not so much.

  5. I wonder if your back and shoulder pain is related to your work this week at the computer? It sounded like you had a particularly long spell in your work chair, trying to get the work done and also keep an eye on your mother. I'm sure you normally factor in short stops to get up, walk around. When I worked at home it helped to do that - even if it was to empty the washing machine and hang the clothes out to dry!
