Yesterday was mom's birthday. Seems like she had a good one. She got some balloons and a card from the staff where she lives. Then dd's flowers were delivered, which worked out good because I could see on the camera she got them, then dd called her to chat. I can see her landline phone call log and found it surprising my uncle didn't call her! He has always remembered and called her for years. Years ago, when he was teaching (community college accounting classes) if her birthday was a week day he'd call on his cell phone from his class and he and the whole class would sign happy birthday. He used to do this for his parents (my grandparents) too. I'm hoping this isn't a sign he is starting to have memory problems, too. I see he last called her on the 27th and seems like he calls her about once a week or so now.
When it was time for me to call her at 6:10 to remind her about her pills, she was not back from dinner yet. I looked at the camera live view (which also has sound, though not great quality) and could hear her little alarm clock that's in her bedroom loudly buzzing away, LOL. About 6:15 I see her come back and as she's hearing the alarm going off she rushes over to the telephone on the desk and tries to answer it and then realizes it's the alarm in the bedroom and goes and turns it off. Every time I go there that little clock in the bedroom is the wrong time because she no longer knows how to set the time or alarm. Thank god for that "dementia clock" on her desk. I see she refers to that quite often during the day and even if she gets up in the middle of the night to adjust her heat (in living room). I knew the med dispenser was going to start chiming again (every 5 minutes) and she did the same thing - picked up the phone, but then realized it was the med dispenser (it also flashes continuously until dispensed) and pushed the button to dispense them. I decided just to watch her on camera instead of calling right then, to see if she'd take them on her own. She dumped them in her hand and walked over to her sink (then I can't see her) and I heard the water turn on and she took them. Since I had already called her in the morning to wish her a happy birthday, I didn't call again.
I checked the live feed around 8pm or so, just to see if she was still up. She was sitting in her recliner (again, where I can't see LOL) but I could hear her talking to herself. The camera always has this loud clicking noise going on when watching it so it makes it hard to hear unless she's talking louder. I could only make out some words here and there, but boy she was having a long conversation for a good 10 minutes or more. Now, my step dad also passed away on her birthday 13 years ago. I wonder if she remembers that. It almost sounded like she was having a conversation with him, but again, I could only decipher a word here and there. Other than one time she sang "You are my sunshine" which was very sweet. That's what made me think it was for my stepdad. I seem to recall he used to sing that. I could hear a couple of times she said she was blessed, very blessed. But, I also could hear that it sounded like she asked the heavenly father to take her. She will say that to me every so often. Seems like when she is really cognizant that her memory isn't good, she will say "well, then it's just time for the heavenly father to take me." Of course 5 minutes later she forgets she said that. Hopefully she was remembering him. Though tough that he passed away on her birthday, they had a really good life together, so I'm sure she has good memories and hopefully she was having some.
Dh is having to replace a tire on his riding lawn mower, so he just ordered 2 as they seem to come in a set. He also has a gift card to Harbor Freight and wants to put it towards a small air compressor he can keep in the garden shed. Air tires, blow off the lawn equipment etc. He found the one he wants online, but they were out of stock in our local store in the city. They ship but it was $100 for shipping. I told him to call the store and see if they know how soon they might get another one in stock. All the other stores in the "area" (like 100-200 miles away) had it in stock, but our store said "back in stock soon". He says "will you call and ask?" He's sitting right there, with the landline and cell phone next to him. I said no! Just call and ask them if they can tell you when they might have it back in stock! The item# is right there on the screen. I'm sure they can look it up on their computer. Geez. Finally he did call but the lady couldn't tell him when, but thought maybe later this week, so we'll just keep checking online to see if it shows back in stock. Apparently dh thought when he called he could order it over the phone with the local store and would have to give them his credit card#, etc., which is why he wanted me to do it. I said no, they aren't going to order it for you. You either take what they have in stock, wait for them to restock, or order it online and have shipped to your home.
So, our company president/co owner, who just retired at the end of December is out of retirement already, LOL. We just got an announcement he has accepted the position as president of one of our customers. I'm sure it will be good for that customer company, as well as our company. He's a go-getter and will bring them lots of business, which will in turn bring our company lots of business.
It appears that order of car wash stuff is coming again today. Rather than just reship the 1 of the 3 packages that got damaged and returned to the company, before it even got to us, they apparently resent the WHOLE order, as 3 packages are out for delivery today. Now we'll have to deal with returning most of it, as it's a duplicate shipment. They have not charged my credit card for a second order - thank goodness because that would be a big charge! but it's not right to keep that much product, due to a mistake on their part.
My boss had yesterday off, but is back today. Still no word on the requested raise.
The weather is starting to be much more spring like. Sunny and 65 today. As I took a walk to the mailbox this morning I noticed all our iris's have lots of green leaves and have spread out more compared to last year.
I think your mom had a nice birthday with a bit of extra attention. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is odd that your uncle didn't call her. Strange.
You might just end up with extra car wash supplies at no cost to you.
Spring is trying really hard to move into my zip code. I just hope it doesn't go straight to the 90's!
I'm sure dh will feel guilty (he's Mr do-gooder LOL) and want to return the duplicate items. Usually here it pretty much goes from snow to 90's. Spring is like only really a few weeks long.
DeleteI bet Amazon to let me return things, and the cs person says no...???
ReplyDeleteI suppose we will all end up alone at night, talking to ourselves. She seems quite content, not anguished. The camera certainly is a boon.
I begged Amazon, not bet.
DeleteAmazon usually doesn't have stuff returned, but one time I received a BROKEN lamp and requested a replacement and they made me send the broken one back, before they'd ship me the replacement LOL. That was annoying
DeleteSounds like returned items, from online sales, frequently end up getting thrown out. Unless instructed to return items, just keep them.
ReplyDeleteand since it was damaged during shipment, I'm sure the company was able to file a claim with FedEx to get the cost of the items back, but how they messed up and reshipped all, who knows.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your mom! I am sure she enjoyed her flowers. I guess talking to oneself is something we, who live alone, all do from time to time. I use mom's room whenever I am in Ankara and I sleep in her bed so, I "talk" to her all the time. Is there a specific time period when people get raises in your company? Or is it totally random?
ReplyDeleteUp until 2018 we had annual performance reviews sometime during the early part of each year. I think like 2009 was skipped when the economy crashed and they laid off people and no raises/reviews, but for the most part it has always been an annual thing
