Saving electricity

I got to thinking about our much lower electricity bill we just got. Like I mentioned, this winter has been milder and we've been keeping our heat down and wearing warmer clothes to stay warm, compared to last year. So, I was bummed when I got my December bill at it was same as December last year.  But, then I got our January bill and it was $100 lower than January last year. Then I also remembered that January is when I started putting our computers to sleep mode when we are not using them, hoping to save a little electricity. I put mine to sleep about 7pm and it doesn't get used again until 7:30 am, so half the time it's in sleep mode now. Even more on weekends. Did I maybe save a lot of electricity doing that?! I will probably only be able to tell by waiting several months and seeing our bills. It should really be easier when I get to the warmer months, where we don't use our heat. If the bills are lower than last year, then the major difference would have to be the computers electricity usage. It will be interesting to see what the next few months bills are.

  1. I doubt putting your computer to sleep is the key to lower cost. There is something else going on.

With a cost of 12 c per hour, your cost would $21.45/year. I used the highest cost to input to get the cost. This may be not so accurate, but your costs are nowhere $100/month.

You are still using electricity, phantom electricity. If everyone quit using phantom electricity, There would be energy to power a large city. It all adds up and putting it to sleep is wasteful. Okay, some days I am wasteful!

    Maybe this will help.

  3. Before my ex left my electric bill was 344 euros a month!!! Then I found out he had the water heater on 24/7!! Little by little I got that down to 85/month now. Bloody hell. That's a car payment (although who wants one of them either)
