With plans to go see my mom today, for her birthday and pick up an order of much needed groceries, I didn't want to also have to add on a bunch of stops for other misc garden/landscaping items, especially as they are heavy. I woke up yesterday and decided (yes, I decided LOL) that dh needed to get out of the house and he needed to drive his rarely driven pickup, so it doesn't sit in the shop and rot. We can drive into the city and load up his truck with the bags of fertilizer and planting soil, as well as there would be plenty of room to get the half whiskey barrels he wants for planting flowers. While I can (and have!) hauled 2 half barrels in the back of my car before (years ago), I couldn't with groceries.
So, we drove that big annoying diesel thing to the garden center. I really do hate riding in that. The engine is obnoxious, it rides rough and is lifted so hard to get into. But hey, it looks nice, right?! (rolling eyes). Got several bags of compost, several bags of potting soil, 3 half whiskey barrels, a pine shrub, and a small flower plant, as dh wanted to take it to where his parents are interred at the VA cemetery. We had not been there yet, so a nice gentleman helped us find their niche. At least now we know where it is and he was glad his siblings ended up deciding to have them here, where they raised all their kids and 3 of their kids live.
Then we stopped at the co-op place for the bags of lawn fertilizer. It's in their drive thru feed barn, but dh also wanted to pick up a back pack type sprayer for the big weed control job he's going to do, so the girl showed us the "secret" door into the back of the main store, that took us right to the garden supplies. We snuck back out that door to the shed with it and had her ring us up for that there, instead of going up to the front of the main store.
It was lunch and dh pulled into the Dairy Queen....what do you want? I want a Peanut Buster Parfait! LOL. So,that's what we had for lunch. Extreme deliciousness :)
After we got home I cleaned out the chicken coop and we figured out where dh wanted the barrels and then decided two more would look nice on the front patio, so we will need to buy more soon. We both took a nap and must have been tired as he woke me up at 4pm and said our retired friend just pulled in the driveway. He stayed and visited until like 5:30. By then I didn't want to spend a half hour making something for dinner and another half hour baking it, so we had the leftover pizza heated up from the previous night. Good and easy. This friend does a lot of odd jobs. He drives the school bus to sports events, he sometimes fills in to help the excavating guy, etc. He says to dh what are you doing on the 10th? I can't drive the water truck for excavating guy that day and he needs someone to drive it for the day. He said he'd tell him to call dh. Not sure if dh will do it (if he even calls) but sounds like something right up dh's alley and I kind of hope he does call. That's what dh needs. Just something like that a couple days a month as a fill in.
After friend left I made cupcakes, so I can take some to my mom for her birthday. The top and sweater I ordered came Friday and they are nice and look to be the right size, so I'm hoping so. I'm going to iron them before I wrap up. Sometime after I went to bed our power went out and didn't come back on until around 4:30 this morning. Not sure why it went out, there was no storm or wind going on.
I'm leaving about noon today to go see her. I want to swing in TJ Maxx and look for a nice saute pan with a lid and see if they still have some fake plants I saw there, kind of tall, since that one I ordered was too short. If it's not raining yet, I'll probably go thru the car wash. DH also needs a pitch fork, that we forgot to get yesterday. I think next weekend, for Mother's Day I'll go pick her up Saturday and bring her here and take her home Sunday. We can have Sunday brunch here. DH says why don't you just bring her back with you tomorrow and take her home next weekend? I'm like...for a week?!! No....no can do, haha. I can do 2 nights for my sanity, haha. Plus, I'd spend the week answering "now when am I going home again?".
