I was awake a little early this morning, so I just got up. DH (who doesn't get up when I do) mumbled he was going to try to sleep in today, if that's ok. I said of course it is. But, knowing him, he'll be up his usual time and find something to do today. Yesterday afternoon we took the 6 big red bows I bought and added them to our wreaths outside. It was so windy, which made it so cold. I was like "yep, looks great!" to move on to the next one and get inside, haha.
I now know what was causing my mom's internet to be in and out Saturday and Sunday, when I kept logging into the medication app and sometimes it would work and other times not. I read a news article that some idiot lady in a trailer park fired a gun several times and while she was arrested, no one at the time realized she hit a fiber optic cable for the internet in the city, causing outage, so it didn't get fixed until Sunday.
I think dd and I are done shopping for my mom for Christmas. I ordered 2 tops from Blair and dd will give her one. I also got her some socks, a wall calendar, crossword puzzle book (for seniors) and candy.
Awhile back I bought this Revlon hair dryer/straightener combo that has lots of good reviews. Other than it being a bit big/bulky to handle, it really does work well. I can dry and straighten my hair in one go and it takes less than 5 minutes. I then do a tiny touch up with iron, but it makes my hair smooth and looks nice. I don't use it most days, but it was nice to use yesterday morning after my shower. DD has very long curly hair and she tried it while she was here over Thanksgiving and liked it, so I got her one for Christmas.
An employee for my side job that I send a check to reimburse expenses for said this would be her last expense report for a few months as she just went on maternity leave. I emailed back that I'm mailing out the check to her today. I started to type "congratulations, have you had the baby yet? enjoy the baby and the holidays" but then realized I don't know what the situation is! She may have adopted....so I just said congratulations, enjoy the baby and holidays. Now I gotta walk the check out to my mailbox...LOL. It's 30 degrees out and I see a few snowflakes falling.
When I was at Walgreens yesterday and checking out some older guy walked in and the cashier was greeting everyone as they came through the door and I heard the guy say "I'm going to need stamps when I check out, so could you make sure they are called up to the register" (or something like that). The voice sounded a bit familiar and I turned to look and pretty sure it was my mom's (off and on LOL) boyfriend. (I've only met him very briefly for a minute or two). He didn't seem to see me and I didn't bother trying to say hello. I was in a hurry to get back to the doctors office. Then as I'm walking to my car and am loading my stuff in the back, some guy pulls up and stopped to tell me he almost ran into me and I need to pay attention (another old guy). I don't know about you, but when I am pulling out of a parking lot I look for people walking to their cars before I back out. It's kind of hard, when you are walking to your car to see that someone is in their car and ready to back out, especially when the lot is full and you can't see into all the cars that are blocking the view of other cars parked on the other side of them. I just said "oh, I'm so sorry!"
So, that urologist visit from last Sept, apparently they didn't submit the claim to insurance until just recently (so why send me a bill for the full amount, if you are waiting on insurance?). I see this morning that his insurance did process it now, and since it was processed now, after he's met his max, it's 100% covered. Throwing this bill for $408 in the garbage! Interesting that it took them over 2 months to file the claim with insurance. When I worked at a doctors office and did billing, we billed out the next day after the visit, or maybe 2 days if we were super busy, and this was a big clinic with 4 offices.
It's like Ground Hog Day every day with my mom the past week or so. For some reason one of the morning medications in her dispenser is reading "low" so it keeps showing a notification on the screen (and on my app). I'm not sure why, other than maybe I missed inputting the quantity when I loaded it (it's optional to do that). It's got the same number of pills the other 3 meds have in their cups inside the machine. Every. Single. Day. I get a phone call asking me about this and I explain it every single time. I can't fix it from the app, so it will have to wait until I go there and get her refilled - which she really isn't due to refill until like first week of Jan or maybe even mid January. And she still doesn't understand that the button in front on the machine that is labeled "push" is just a label! It's not telling her she needs to push it! So, she walks by the machine. See's it says "Push" LOL, and pushes it and then of course, since she's already taken her meds for the morning, it thinks she's trying to take again, so the screen above says "this is locked, contact your caregiver". And the other almost daily question is what we are doing for Christmas....and I don't have to come and get her if I don't want to....sigh.....
If she still looks at a calendar, maybe she can remember to use it. You could write things on it and maybe she would not ask questions like, "when are you coming to get me?"
ReplyDeleteMy hair is stick straight, so I let it dry without using anything to take out any wave or wrinkle. I only comb it when it is bone-dry, and then get a bit of fluff. It must be nice to have curly hair.
I am so glad there is still no snow here, days in 50s to 70s.
The woman with the gun must have left the whole town in a tizzy.
I really don't think she does remember much now to look at it, especially for reminders. I can write notes for her till the cows come home and she doesn't see them. But she will probably still like having it on her wall and seeing the pictures each month (flowers). I used to have almost straight hair, just a bit of a wave to it. Now it's pretty curly. No idea how or why, LOL. I don't really like it much. Too poofy and frizzy. My dd has always had curly hair, but she got her from her dad, who has very (when he had hair) curly hair.
DeleteGoing gray or silver causes hair to get more kink or curl and takes away the straightnes.
Deletewell, that explains it then, because I'm all white :/
DeleteGood Lord, I bet that lady with the gun couldn't hit an elephant's bum if she tried to but to take out a fibre optic cable???? And why the heck was the firing a gun anyway?
ReplyDeleteI kind of skimmed over the article, but it doesn't sound like she was really shooting at anything in particular (probably drunk or high) and accidentally hit the cable. A neighbor in the trailer park called in the shots Sat night. They found the gun hidden her in trailer and arrested her. Then Sunday morning were getting lots of reports of internet outages, LOL.
DeleteI think this is just the way it will be with your mama, and you know this, I know. It is so hard!
ReplyDeleteI know. I just wish I'd be a little smarter sometimes to avoid these things! I have to fix it at the machine itself, not from my app. I went ahead and got the next refills of meds on the way (a little early) so they should be here next week and hopefully I can get back in to visit her the next weekend and fix it. I had ordered them last Friday, hoping they'd be here this week and I could to do it this weekend, but just today got an email they shipped today. I have a feeling the delay was because it wasn't close enough to her next refill date, until this week.
DeleteIs there a way to tape over the "Push" word? Or is it on the button? As for the drunk woman shooting randomly, thankfully she did not shoot people, just the cable. I guess she should be sued for damaging public property. In this day and age, we cannot do even simple things without Internet anymore.
ReplyDeleteI actually taped the "push" on there, because nothing was labeled and I was afraid she wouldn't know what she was supposed to push to dispense.....damned if I do and damned if I don't, LOL. As far as the shooter lady - nothing will happen to her at all. Nothing happens to any of these low lifes creating havoc and destruction. There's no money to be gotten off of fining them, since they have none, so nothing happens to them.
DeleteWell, if they have no money, may be some jail time could be useful. It seems, there are laws but no justice, sometimes...
